Lancaster County Sheriff releases results from speeding prevention

LANCASTER COUNTY, Neb - The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office recently took part in the nationwide speeding prevention mobilization.
Through July 14-23, additional deputies were placed on duty and focused their efforts on speed and traffic violations. Deputies involved contacted 195 vehicles, issues 112 official traffic citations, 133 warning/defect cards, arrested 10 people on outstanding warrants and made two criminal arrests.
The most common violations seen were speeding, with 61 violations.
The criminal violations included a pair of citations issued for marijuana possession under one ounce.
Overtime compensation for the additional deputies working during the crackdown was paid through a mini-grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
