Isolated area of SE Nebraska under flash flood warning

Torrential rain being produced by some storms in northeast Kansas

BEATRICE – Heavy rain prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning Thursday morning, for a southeast Nebraska county.

The warning was issued for the western part of Johnson County, where two to four inches of rain fell from thunderstorms crossing southeast Nebraska.  Locations in the warned area included Sterling, St. Mary and Vesta.

Earlier, rainfall amounts of over five inches were reported in some Kansas locations.   Hiawatha, in the northeast corner of the state, received five-point-six inches of rain.  One location, near Ottawa, Kansas, had a spotter report of six inches of rain.  Ottawa is located southeast of Topeka. 

Several locations in Kansas received from two to four inches of rain.
