LPD: investigating homicide involving gunshots, vehicle crash

Authorities in Lincoln responded to a call about hearing gunshots and a possibly vehicle crash early Friday.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Authorities are investigating a homicide after responding to a call in Lincoln where someone heard gunshots and there was a possible car crash early Friday morning.  

The Lincoln Police Department said that around 12:20 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to S. 20th and Washington St. on a disturbance. 

LPD said the caller reported hearing gunshots and possibly a motor vehicle crash. 

When officers arrived, LPD said they found a vehicle that had been involved in a crash and a 38-year-old male driver, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. 

LPD and Lincoln Fire & Rescue personnel said they provided life-saving efforts, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. 

Authorities said that investigators worked through the night to process the scene and canvassed the area gathering additional evidence. 

LPD said they do not have any information that would suggest ongoing or targeted threat to the publics' safety. However, authorities have not made an arrest at this time. 

Officials are not releasing the name of the victim at this time so they can notify the family and further investigation. 

LPD said this investigation is in the early stages. 

The Police Department is asking anyone with information or video involving the victim's vehicle, a white Jeep Patriot, to come forward and call the station at 402-441-6000.
