BEATRICE – Drivers passing over the South Sixth Big Blue River bridge see them on a daily basis….and they’re not much to look at.

Old rusted bridge railings are being removed from the U.S. Highway 77 bridge next to Chautauqua Park….and being replaced with new decorative railing on both sides of the structure.

Beatrice Street Department crew members recently began removing the old rails from the bridge and will install the new ones.  The project is similar to one completed last year, when the new easier-to-look at rails were put in place on the West Court Street bridge over the Big Blue.

The U.S. 77, or South Sixth Street bridge is a longer structure requiring a bit more time to complete the project.

Traffic has been reduced to one-lane in both directions in south Beatrice as the work proceeds….and motorists should use caution through that area.
