LINCOLN, Neb. -- It was announced Thursday that a Lincoln man will be serving over 17 years in prison for multiple meth-related charges.

42-year-old Andrew Alan Spiehs received 17 1/2 years (210 months) in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine mixture and 50 grams or more of actual meth.

Following his release from prison, Spiehs will serve five years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

It was reported that information given to law enforcement indicated Spiehs was involved with the distribution of at least 150 grams (about 5 1/4 oz.) of actual or pure meth and at least 1.5 kg. (3 lbs.) of meth mixture in the Lincoln area between August 2017 and January 31, 2019.

According to court documents, on January 31, 2019, investigators made a controlled delivery of a package containing meth to Spiehs at his Lincoln home. That package had been intercepted in Calif. and contained at least 100 grams of actual meth.

In June 2019, Spiehs was released from federal custody under conditions, but he fled and was a fugitive for more than two years before he was arrested in Wyoming in August 2021.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said that because Spiehs ran, he got an enhancement on his sentencing range.

Spiehs was given an enhancement for possession of a gun during the time he was involved in the drug conspiracy.

This case was investigated by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force.
