Humboldt and Cook attorneys make finalist list

BEATRICE The Judicial Nominating Commission for a County Judge in the First Judicial District has advanced two persons for Governor Pete Ricketts to consider appointing.

Following a commission public hearing Wednesday in Richardson County District Court in Falls City, the names of Diane L. Merwin of Humboldt and Richard R. Smith of Cook, have been forwarded to the governor's office.  The person selected would serve as a county judge, based in either Richardson, Nemaha or Pawnee County. 

The person selected would fill a county court vacancy created with the retirement of Judge Curtis Maschmann. 

The First Judicial District includes Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richardson, Saline, and Thayer counties.
