The National Weather Service (NWS) is tracking the potential for severe weather over southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas for Thursday night and Friday morning.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has placed extreme southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas in a slight risk for severe weather.

Storms are expected to develop over the area Thursday evening. Those the pop up south of Interstate 80 have the potential to become severe.

As with many recent storm systems, the main hazards are large hail and damaging winds.

Earlier this week, severe storms left damage behind north of I-80 in and around the York and Seward areas. There was also a confirmed tornado east of Lincoln. Last weekend, southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas also saw storms that pummeled towns like Beatrice, Wymore and Marysville, Kansas
