Nebraska teacher creates music video after class
Two Lincoln natives join together to create a music video for "yellow year," an Emmy Jo original.
By News Channel NebraskaLINCOLN, Neb. -- Emmy Jo, a school teacher in Lincoln, Nebraska is also an indie-pop singer/songwriter outside of the classroom.
She partnered with Los Angeles-based Film Director Detric Cook, originally from Lincoln, to create a music video for her single "yellow year."
The former Family, Consumer, and Science Teacher spent her nights and weekends throughout the school year bringing the project to life before joining the wave of teachers leaving the profession in Nebraska.
“I love creating music,” said Emmy Jo. “Creating this music video made me reevaluate where I spend my energy. Unfortunately, the past two years of teaching in a pandemic has been exhausting.”
"We were fortunate to shoot at a perfect time in Lincoln last fall,” said Cook. “'Yellow Year' was a perfect canvas for a music video. I felt like the colors and scenes we implemented translated to the song's soulful story of overcoming emotional hardships."
Cook said that the music video was shot at iconic Nebraska businesses like Zesto’s Ice Cream and the 1867 Bar. It also features a handbag from the local fashion brand Sapahn.
Emmy Jo is currently releasing music from Lincoln.
She is finishing an EP that will release later this summer.
