Sport utility vehicle runs several stop signs before police locate vehicle, later
BEATRICE – Beatrice Police arrested a motorist for driving on a revoked license and other charges, following a brief pursuit Friday.
An officer parked near 4th and Lincoln observed a black sport utility vehicle with loud music run a stop sign southbound, and the officer followed to initiate a traffic stop.
The SUV driver did not stop, running five other stop signs along Grant Street.
The officer then observed the SUV traveling at about 50-to-60 miles per hour north on 8th Street, the wrong way on the one-way street, before losing sight of it as it turned west.
Police later located the vehicle at an apartment complex in the eight-hundred block of North 6th. They contacted the driver, identified as 30-year-old Marquel Callahan. After being given consent to search the vehicle, registered to another person, officers found a knife with a blade of four-and-a-quarter inches in a sheath under the driver’s seat.
Police arrested Callahan for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and driving during revocation.
A records check showed Callahan was convicted of felony drug possession in November of 2014….and felony flight to avoid arrest in December, 2020.
