BEATRICE – The first candidate to file for the job of Beatrice Mayor this year has his first endorsement……from the man who now occupies that seat.

Mayor Stan Wirth, who is not seeking reelection to a third term, says he supports City Councilman Bob Morgan in his run for the position.
"I certainly throw my full support to Bob, for his election bid process. I think there's a variety of reasons. Number one, he has the respect of the rule of law...I'm confident he will comply with all the legal requirements of all the jurisdictions within our community. And, he's a good listener....he's a good communicator. He's done that for a long time when he was Campus Director for Southeast Community College."

Morgan retired from his college administrator job this past year, and said he had been considering a run…..made official with his filing on Wednesday.
Wirth said Morgan, a seven-year city councilman, is knowledgeable about budgets and understands the restraints about how the city spends money.

"I just think that he has the skills and capabilities to navigate through not only the financial picture of our community, but also has the ability to communicate with city councilmen....and convey the same ideas and philosophies I have....and that is to better improve our community."

Wirth says when he ran for mayor, much of the early work was about preparing and learning what the city does and how departments operate.
"It's not just going to city council meetings, and its just not imposing ordinances and resolutions. It's about how you take care of the operation of the city so people have electricity, they have water, they have sewer. There's just a lot, to it."

The eventual winner of the Beatrice Mayor’s race, along with those who win seats on the city council, will begin their terms in early December.
