BEATRICE, NE — The National Weather Service says Nebraskans won’t see as much snow accumulation as expected on Saturday.

The NWS issued a new situation report around 9:00 Saturday morning. Forecasters say snow is struggling to overcome dry air, resulting in snow sublimating, or turning to water vapor, before it reaches the surface. Snow totals are now forecast to be be in the four to six inch range for most of southeast Nebraska with a chance for seven inches in some spots along the Missouri River. Snow accumulation should be limited to three inches north of Interstate 80.

The NWS says this winter storm can still cause dangerous conditions. Peak snow rates are expected from mid-morning to 3:00 p.m. Visibility could be reduced to less than a half0mile because of blowing snow. Additionally, wind chill values could drop as low as -30 in the overnight hours. Officials recommend delaying snow removal until Sunday because of the dangerous wind chill.

All of southeast Nebraska will remain in a Winter Storm Warning throughout the day.
