Trial starts for man accused of murdering stepmother

BROKEN BOW, Neb. -- A central Nebraska man accused of killing his stepmother is in trial.

Authorities say 45-year-old Trent Esch is accused of fatally shooting 62-year-old Crystal Esch in a home near Broken Bow last year.

Jury selection began Tuesday morning at the Custer County Courthouse.

Court records show Esch is charged with first-degree murder and weapons charges in the case. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
