Betty L. Brackhahn, 90 years old, of Falls City, NE, formerly of Beatrice, passed away on December 15, 2025 in Falls City. She was born on February 13, 1935 in Shubert, NE to Frank & Vernell (Neman) Hogue. Betty graduated from Dawson High School in 1953 and attended Peru State College for 2 years, graduating in 1957 from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She did graduate work at UNK, earning a Master's Degree in 1968. On June 24, 1956 Betty married Virgil D. Brackhahn in Dawson, NE. They were blessed with two daughters, Susan and Leslie. They established their home in Lincoln for 3 years, and then moved to Beatrice, McCook, Kansas City, back to Beatrice in 1977, and then moved to Falls City in 2024.

Betty was a teacher of music, English, speech and theater. She retired after 32 years of teaching in high schools in Malcom, Diller, Beatrice and Wymore, and at the Southeast Community College. She had taught at Wymore High School for 15 years where she coached the speech team and directed 15 musicals and plays. Betty also was a judge for conference and state speech contests. She received the State Speech Teacher Award in 1995. After retirement from teaching, Betty earned a real estate license and worked for Beatrice Realty for 10 years.

Betty sang and directed church choirs for 50 years and was a soloist many times. She was a member of Mensa, the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, where she had served on the board of trustees, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Cosgrove Music Club, and the Beatrice Area Retired Teachers Association.

Betty is survived by her daughter Susan Brackhahn of Lincoln; brother Ed (Donna) Hogue of Upton, Wyoming; niece Kimberly Goff; and nephews Steve Yoder, Mark Hogue, Don Hogue and Ryan Hogue. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil Brackhahn (2024); daughter Leslie Brackhahn (1990); and niece Peggy Hogue.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel, 708 North 6th Street in Beatrice. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. A memorial has been established to the family's choice for future designation with the funeral home in charge.
