Gage County Courthouse ground level entrance reopened
East side ground level entrance is disability compliant

BEATRICE – The project is not yet completed, but the public entrance at a county facility in southeast Nebraska has reopened.
The east ground level A-D-A entrance at the Gage County Courthouse is now open along the northeast corner of the facility. Building and Grounds Supervisor Dave Jones says handrails have been installed on the northeast ramp to the entrance….with the southeast corner yet to be done.
"The doors will then be installed next Thursday, November the 6th....the automatic sliding door will then come in. We didn't have too many issues with people that needed help getting into the building. We kind of lucked out on that....there were a few times we needed to help some people, but all in all, it worked well."
Sliding doors will be installed at the entrance, which could help solve a wind-tunnel effect where traditional glass doors would swing open too quickly or be difficult to open.
The Gage County Courthouse has public entrances on the east and south sides of the building.
County officials also hope to make progress in the coming months on taking old court records stored on the fourth floor of the historic building and putting them in digital form. That could help ease stress on the fourth floor from storage of the heavy paper records.
