TECUMSEH, Neb. -A storm bringing heavy rain to southeast Nebraska has prompted a disaster declaration.

On Tuesday morning, portions of Johnson County saw over four inches of precipitation in less than three hours bringing significant damage to roads, culverts, and bridges. Following an assessment of 19 separate sites, the Johnson County Board of Commissioners has declared a local state of emergency.

The declaration was signed Wednesday by Commission Chair David Borrenpohl. The declaration has been submitted to the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency for review and potential state-level assistance.

One of the hardest hit areas was 623 Avenue between 722 Road and 722.5 Road, which had to be temporarily closed due to flood damage. County officials anticipate reopening the road by Friday, September 26, pending repairs and safety inspections.

County officials are working on damaged sites to assess, clear, and repair affected areas.

Tecumseh recorded 4.30" per the National Weather Service.

Residents are urged to use caution while traveling and to report any additional damage or hazards to county officials.
