BEATRICE, Neb. - A program that served the community for more than two decades is back at Southeast Community College and a coordinator has been named to lead its return.
Southeast Community College has hired Ginger Buchanan as Community Education Coordinator in Beatrice. Buchanan will oversee the development and coordination of life and leisure classes offered in Beatrice and surrounding communities.
The college is reviving Continuing Education on its Beatrice Campus after listening to area residents who expressed a need for accessible, enriching educational experiences. The program had been discontinued following the retirement of longtime Assistant Director Kelly Morgan in 2020 and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Morgan was hired in 1999 to develop community education that went beyond the basic CPR and health classes offered prior to her arrival.
Originally from South Carolina, Buchannan has a background in agriculture. She and her husband spent over two decades in Montana, where they managed ranching operations together and she served as a Food Service Director at a public school.
About two years ago, they relocated to Nebraska to raise, train and sell timed-event and ranch horses. Buchanan's diverse background includes tending greenhouses and gardens, and she maintains a passion for scratch-made meals and hands-on living.
