BEATRICE – The Superintendent of Beatrice Public Schools will receive an increase in salary.
The Beatrice School Board Monday night voted to approve a contract amendment that will bring Superintendent Jason Alexander’s annual pay to $200,000.

School Board President Eric Trusty says the amendment grants a 1.09-percent increase in pay.

In other school board actions Monday night…the bid of Prairie Mechanical was approved for repair of heating, ventilation and cooling units at Beatrice High School, totaling $10,600.

"We are starting to see items that need updating and repaired more frequently. We currently have a couple of HVAC units that are not working properly, so they need to be replaced. The units that we have are in the I-T room where we house all of our technology, so it's necessary that we get that replaced...and then, in the business room." said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jackie Nielsen. She notes that Beatrice High School is now 25 years old.

Also, the board of education approved the purchase of a Bobcat machine from Mead Lumber. "The Bobcat will be utilized at the elementary school for snow removal and other projects...and it would be able to head over to the high school to help out over there, as well."

The district is using some of the money earned during auctions of property at the old elementary buildings. The price of the machine was $31,500.
