Mild for Nebraska....not so in NE Kansas, NW Missouri Thursday night

Storms break out across parts of Kansas and Missouri, while Nebraska struggles to receive rain

BEATRICE – Severe weather missed southeast Nebraska, but an area of strong thunderstorms did some damage in northeast Kansas and a part of Missouri, Thursday night.

National Weather Service officials received several observer reports of tree damage and power poles knocked down, in an area that included Troy and Atchison, Kansas….and the St. Joseph, Missouri area.

The damage occurred in strong thunderstorms between seven and eight p.m., when storms packed winds up to 70-miles-per-hour.  Power outages were reported in some areas.  In Nortonville, Kansas…a part of a metal roof was torn off a convenience store, by winds estimated at about 60-miles-per-hour.

The storms continued into northwest Missouri, near Kansas City.  High winds knocked down a tree, which fell on a home and fence, in Liberty, Missouri.

Trees and power lines were downed in St. Joseph, Missouri at around 8 p.m.
