FAIRBURY, NEB. - "Hello, radio auction?"

Those three words have become symbolic of southeast Nebraska radio in August.

Radio Auction, a tradition of over 20 years, has returned to Ol Red 99.5 and KWBE for another year.

“It’s pretty easy to do, we get gift certificates from area businesses like pizza places, car detail shops… just every business that wants to be on the radio auction gets with our sales staff.”

Ol Red 99.5 Prorgram Director Trevor Steinmeyer says Radio Auction is exactly what it sound like… an auction, on the radio.

The station has been fielding calls from listeners, looking to snag a deal for over 20 years.

“You hear a deal on the air, maybe you don’t need a $50 oil change, but you hear your Grandpa Earl bidding on it and you hate your Grandpa Earl, and you’re like ‘Well, I have to out bid him’ and it’s an auction,” Steinmeyer said.

Radio Auction takes place the first four Thursday’s in August from noon to 5:00 p.m. Steinmeyer says long-sustained success comes from more than just finding a deal.

“The listeners seem to not just appreciate the deals, but it also is kind of addicting to listen to.”
