LINCOLN, NEB. - Nebraska strapped on the pads for the first practice of fall camp on Wednesday, with one of many goals for the season being to limit turnovers.

Nebraska ranked 129 out of 130 teams in the turnover margin with a -17 rating in 2023. Head coach Matt Rhule says the time for those mistakes is over.

"It's time to win, there's no sympathy... You have to be fair, but everyone's had all spring and summer to get here."

Nebraska's offense totaled 31 turnovers in 2023, with 16 interceptions and 15 fumbles lost - tied with Georgia Southern for the most in Division I. Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield says tolerance will be low in 2024.

"If we have to just take a kneee three times and punt, we're going to do that, but we're not going to turn the ball over," Satterfield said. "The players know, if you turn the ball over, you're not going to stay in the game."

Nebraska will have a deep room of running backs come consisting of redshirt junior Gabe Ervin Jr, redhsirt senior Rahmir Johnson, redshirt sophomore Emmett Johnson, and sophomore Oregon transfer Dante Dowdell.

Emmett Johnson says ball security is a main point of focus for himself during fall camp.

"Protecting the football is everything for this program,” Johnson said. “It’s what’s been keeping us from winning football games. It shouldn’t come from the coaches, it’s on u players to take this seriously. You’re going to see me, working at that really hard because that’s going to help us win a lot of games this year.”

Nebraska begins the season hosting UTEP on Aug. 31.
