Four departments respond to Wymore home fire
WYMORE – Firefighters and resources from four departments responded to an early morning house fire in southeast Nebraska, Wednesday.
The fire broke out at a home along North 8th Street in Wymore. Firefighters were paged just after six a.m.
"When we first got here, we did a full perimeter. There was smoke coming from all the eaves of the roof...by the time we made it back around to this side, there were flames shooting out."
Wymore Firefighter Rylee Meints says no one was at the residence when the fire happened. A pet cat was lost in the blaze. It appeared that most of the fire damage was at the rear of the home, located along the east side of North 8th. "The main part of it, we're not sure if it started in the attic and then worked its way down....or started down low, and then worked its way up."
A state fire investigator was summoned to help look into the cause of the blaze. Firefighters summoned to fires in recent days are facing sizzling temperatures…but in the early morning fire, Meints says there were no problems with injuries or heat exhaustion.
"It's pretty hot out here already, and this gear doesn't help. EMS brought us water, and Barneston Fire brought water for us."
Firefighters and apparatus from Wymore, Blue Springs, Barneston Rural and Beatrice Fire and Rescue responded. About 25 firefighters were on the scene from the four departments.
