FAIRBURY, Neb -  The City of Fairbury is asking its residents to conserve outdoor water usage again with even more restrictions in place.   Fairbury Mayor Spencer Brown has implemented a stage 2 water emergency, which limits the time of day outdoor water usage can happen.   For the past month or more residents with odd-numbered addresses were asked to water on odd days, and even addresses on even days.   With the new requirements, water usage can only happen between 9 PM and 10 AM.

Currently the overall usage has nearly exceeded the pumping capabilities due to the lack of precipitation and decreased groundwater levels.  In fact, the city is now down to 2 wells instead of 3 to cover the entire city.

If these restrictions do not work, Fairbury will be forced to ban all outdoor water usage.   City staff will continue to monitor the groundwater levels and notify the public as soon as it is safe to return to normal operation.
