Wymore Police Chief resignation formally accepted

WYMORE – A southern Gage County community is finding itself in the familiar position of being without a police chief, again.
After just ten months on the job, Bobby Martinez submitted his resignation to the Wymore Mayor and City Council. It was formally accepted by city officials Wednesday night. Martinez was sworn-in as the Chief, last August.
Mayor Collin Meints says the city will get help from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office as it formulates a plan of what to do next. "The sheriff's office will cover the 9-1-1 or emergency-type calls. The nuisance violation stuff will be forwarded onto the city office or myself. Poor-run yards, trash, your dog complaints....sheriff's office will handled any dog-at-large calls or dangerous dog calls."
Martinez came to Wymore from Sidney…where he was with the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office. He will become the new Police Chief at Valley, Nebraska…a larger department.
Full staff for Wymore Police in the past has been a Chief, one full-time officer and a part-time officer. Wymore Fire Chief Mark Meints, who is a security coordinator for Southeast Community College…also serves part-time as a Wymore Police Officer.
Some council members expressed dismay about Martinez apparently referring to a lack of support in his letter of resignation.
