FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The Crete Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Cinco De Mayo celebration Sunday.

In the event’s third year and will feature multiple food options, craft vendors, music, piñatas, and traditional dancers doing traditional dances from Mexico.

The food options include tortas, tacos, enchiladas, churros, and more.

Veronica Ortiz, Vice President for the Crete Chamber of Commerce, said they continue to change the event each year to bring in more and more newcomers to the celebration.

“It is beautiful. Perfect,” Ortiz said. “I have noticed that there are more people coming. We are trying to do our best to make it a little bit different each year so we can invite more people to our community. It looks like it is working.”

The event brings in people from around the area including Wilber, Dorchester, Dewitt, Lincoln and even Omaha.

Ortiz enjoys events like these because of the opportunity to bring the community together.

“It is important because it is a day where all of us can get together. All of Crete,” Ortiz said. “This isn’t just for Hispanic people but it is for everybody. We want to keep getting together as a family and spending time with each other. That is one of the important things.”

The event is from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Crete City Park.
