FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The Fairbury Chamber of Commerce hosted an event welcoming new teachers to the town before the start of the new school year.

The event brought out the superintendent and multiple administrators from Fairbury public schools, along with the new teachers too.

“So the purpose of business after hours is to honor our new teachers that are coming down from across the state. Some down in Kansas and it is just a unique opportunity,” says Sean Molloy, Superintendent of Fairbury Public Schools. “The Chamber of Commerce, they do an amazing job putting this on and they do a great job every year.

New teachers in the town of Fairbury span from elementary school to high school.

“So you will have teachers here from the earliest elementary grades up to high school teachers so it really is a mix of a bunch of different people,” says Molloy.

Thirteen new teachers were welcomed to the city Friday with music and food, as well as gifts.

Molloy says that, after tonight, the teachers should be ready to go for the school year.

“So I think that they come into this a little unsure but once they are here and they see how friendly everyone is, they are ready to go,” said Molloy.

The new school year will begin Wednesday, August 16 for Fairbury Public Schools.
