JEFFERSON COUNTY - One of southeast Nebraska’s first county fair’s is set to begin this week.

From July 12-16, the Jefferson County Fair will take center stage in Fairbury, and organizer Thomas Dux says the fair has special meaning.

“It is the 150th fair of family, food, and fun,” Dux said. “Having the carnival atmosphere and the rodeo up north, along with the USAC races, we do try to provide a fair for everybody.”

The fair features the Midwest Midget Championship USAC races on both Friday and Saturday night, a carnival, and a number of livestock showing and judging contests. With it being the 150th fair, Dux says the fair world is still vibrant, especially in the livestock sector.

“It’s kind of tough, seems like livestock shows and numbers may go down, but we still have a lot of youth livestock shows and events,” Dux said. “We see a lot of families and kids committed to showing at the county fair, and celebrating the carnival and events that we have going on.”

As a Fairbury resident who’s gone to the fair as long as he can remember, Dux says he’s excited for another go around.

“The fair means a lot to me… Something I look forward to every year. I just want families, kids, and students to have the amazing experiences I’ve had.”
