‘Meat and potatoes’: Omaha hotel business keeps busy during CWS

OMAHA, Neb. - As the College World Series continues in Omaha, hotels in the downtown area are the busiest they’ll be all year.

Dan Koziol, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hotel Indigo, has been outside Charles Schwab Field with his team all week long, getting people information about the hotel and celebrating the event.

He tells NCN what hotels experience during the 10-day stretch.

“This event brings people in from all over the nation and from different parts of the country,” Koziol said. “It just seems like, whoever you cheer for, we’re all on the same team, we’re all here to experience the College World Series.”

Charles Schwab Field set a new attendance record in 2022, with over 366,000 fans attending games, forcing area hotels to ramp up efforts of preparation for the week. It comes as no surprise, but Koziol says this time of the year is the best for the Hotel Indigo and others nearby.

“It doesn’t get better,” Koziol said. “This is the meat and potatoes of our year… Having people come in from all over the country is a big boost to the community to Omaha, but we’re really excited to have them here.”

Sure, it may be busy, but Koziol says the the experience is unique for hotels in the area, as they get to meet many people, from many different walks of life, each year.

“It’s fantastic,” Koziol said. “You can walk through here and smell anything from boudin to burgers on the grill… Lots of different people. Lots of different cultures and experiences, so I think we all love to get together and have a good time here in Omaha.”
