Auburn downs Fairbury behind big 2nd inning

AUBURN, NE — As the high school baseball regular season winds down, Auburn continues to stay hot by picking up a run-rule win over Fairbury Monday.
Auburn won the matchup 15-5 in five innings. The Bulldogs put up 10 runs in the second inning in the victory.
Despite that, it was the Fairbury Jeffs who led early. Fairbury scored two runs in the top of the first on four hits. The Jeffs defense that sat down the Auburn batters in order in the bottom half of the first inning.
The second inning flipped the game on its head.
Auburn forced Fairbury to go three-up-three-down in the top of the second to keep the game at 2-0.
In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs' first seven batters of the frame reached base. Those seven would all score as well. Auburn nearly got through the entire batting order twice, sending 16 players to the plate.
The Bulldogs plated 10 runs on six hits and two Fairbury errors. The Jeffs also walked four batters and hit another.
Fairbury got one run back in the top of the fourth as Jamison Runge scored on a wild pitch. Auburn countered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to make it 14-3.
In the fifth, Fairbury temporarily fended off the 10-run rule thanks to Auggie Judd's second home run of the year, which made it 14-5. Auburn quickly got the one run needed in the bottom of the fifth on a Logan Sierks RBI single to end the contest.
The Bulldogs have now won six of their last seven games and is 8-6 on the year. They'll play next at Rock Port, Missouri on Tuesday.
Fairbury falls to 4-14 with the loss. The Jeffs end the regular season Tuesday at home versus Hastings.
