BEATRICE – Adams State Senator Myron Dorn is one of a handful of lawmakers to have named their priority bill early in this 90-day legislative session.
The 30th District Senator named LB 562, the “E-15 Access Standard Act”…as his priority measure for this year’s session.

The bill recently had a hearing in the Agriculture Committee.

"How we bring about more access and more use of E-15 in the state of Nebraska. The ethanol people, the corn people brought this bill to me and we've been working on this bill probably since the August-September time frame and making adjustments. There's a lot of discussion about where or how we might need to make some additional adjustments. Hopefully, next week they will...in committee they will exec on this and other bills, in the agriculture committee. Hopefully, we can now get it out to the floor and have some discussion on this bill."

The E-15 measure proposes state funding to aid fuel retailers in providing the equipment and facilities for better access to E-15 fuel.  As of Friday, six state senators and one committee had named priority bills for this session. Dorn was asked if an early designation could move his bill to the front of the debate calendar.

"If you make a bill a priority, that doesn't mean that it will get out of committee. Hopefully, it has a better opportunity to get out of committee, but that still needs to pass that. Once that all happens, and it depends on how the session is going and where Speaker (John) Arch is able to start to schedule them. This week, we have started morning debate on the floor....we still have afternoon committees."

Committee hearings this session will continue through March 24th, then the rest of the session will feature all-day floor debate.  Nebraska lawmakers have Friday and Monday off……a four-day weekend in observance of the President’s Day Holiday, on Monday.
