Stolen vehicle recovered in Lincoln

A stolen vehicle from September was found early Wednesday morning by Lincoln Police.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A stolen vehicle from September was found early Wednesday morning by Lincoln Police.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers found a reportedly stolen 2012 Kia Sorento SUV in a motel parking lot near NW 12th St. and W Cornhusker Highway at 3:45 a.m. The vehicle was reported stolen on Sept. 13 from an address near 10th and South St. 

Officers said they started watching the vehicle and saw 38-year-old Thomas Baxter get into the vehicle at 5:15 a.m. Police tried to talk to Baxter but he fled on foot. 

According to authorities, Baxter was taken into custody after a short foot chase. Officers reportedly found a total of 25.2 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of U.S. money.

Baxter was arrested for felony theft by receiving stolen property, felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, felony possession of money while violating 28-416, and a misdemeanor for obstructing a peace officer. The vehicle was recovered and valued at $10,212.
