Beatrice man to be sentenced Thursday, in shooting death, December 31, 2020

Brandon Long reached plea deal that reduced charges

BEATRICE – A man convicted in the death of a Beatrice man December 31st, 2020 as the victim stood outside the house of the man and his fiance, will be sentenced this morning in Gage County District Court.

26-year-old Brandon Long earlier pleaded no contest to charges of a terroristic threat and possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony.

Long originally was charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony in the shooting death of Alex Rader. 

The charges were reduced in a plea agreement.  Long could receive up to seven years in prison and up to three-years, six months of post-release supervision.  Long has been held in the Gage County Jail, since the incident happened.

Rader was shot while standing outside Long’s home just before midnight, December 31st, 2020.
