BEATRICE – Some regions of northeast and northern Nebraska are potentially facing their first blast of the winter season, beginning late Thursday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from late Thursday evening to Friday evening, with heavy snow possible in some counties in the northern areas of the state.

The heaviest snow, possibly three to eight inches, could affect towns such as Creighton, Bloomfield, Crofton, Niobrara, Hartington, Coleridge, Neligh, Pierce, and Osmond.

National Weather Service officials say travel is expected to become difficult Friday, with periods of heavy snow and drifting.

Farther south, two to five inches of snow could fall from Grand island to Columbus to Tekamah.   Far southern and southeast Nebraska has a potential for up to two inches of snow in some areas.
