OGALLALA, Neb. — Federal assistance is now available for Nebraska farmers and ranchers impacted by recent wildfires, including the historic Morrill Fire.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday that technical and financial support is available through its Natural Resources Conservation Service to help producers recover from losses to land, livestock, infrastructure and crops.

Impacted producers are encouraged to contact their local USDA Service Center to report damages and explore available recovery programs.

The agency is also opening a special emergency sign-up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program beginning March 25. The program provides financial assistance for conservation efforts, including grazing management, cover crops, fencing, mulching and emergency livestock mortality management.

Officials say the assistance is designed to help producers restore operations following widespread wildfire damage across the state.

Producers must meet eligibility requirements, including a ranking threshold, to qualify for funding.
