Sidney advances to district final with 57-36 win over Omaha Mercy

Sidney is headed to the district final. The Lady Raiders forced 40 turnovers in a 57-36 win over Omaha Mercy and will host Gretna or Seward on Saturday at 1 p.m. MST with a state berth on the line.

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Sidney forced 40 turnovers and pulled away in the second half to defeat Omaha Mercy 57-36 on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals of the Class B-5 District Tournament.

The Lady Raiders improved to 18-5 and will host either Gretna (13-9) or Seward (11-10) in the district championship Saturday at 1 p.m. MST. Omaha Mercy finished its season at 10-15.

Laramey Misegadis led Sidney with 18 points, while Kierra Schrader added nine and Lilee Wieser chipped in eight. The Lady Raiders finished 5 of 15 from the free-throw line.

Lily Mills paced Omaha Mercy with 10 points. The Monarchs were 6 of 12 from the line.

Sidney will now look to secure a berth in the Nebraska School Activities Association Girls State Basketball Tournament for the 20th time in school history when it hosts Saturday’s district final.

News Channel Nebraska will carry the Class B-5 District Championship in Sidney on either 987 The Big Boy or Cheyenne County Country.
