WNCC softball falls twice to Tyler

               TYLER, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas on a 6-game road trip on Friday.

                The first game saw the Cougars score first but then allowed 11 early runs to fall 14-5. The second game saw the Cougars score six 5th-inning runs, but it wasn’t enough as Tyler earned the 15-6 win.

                The Cougars will continue their Texas road trip as they face Trinity Valley Community College on Saturday and then Paris Junior College on Sunday.

                The first game saw the Cougars score first as Tina Horton reached base on an error then Tori Travers singled. Horton scored on an Adi Duke ground out and Travers scored on a 2-out Jasmine Castro single.

                Tyler came right back with six runs in the first to take a 6-2 lead. Neither team scored in the second and then WNCC plated two in the third to make it 6-4. Travers led off the third with a home run. Duke followed by reaching on an error, Abbey Arntsen reached on a fielder’s choice, and Gracie Holm walked. Alyssa Albuagh scored Abbey Arntsen with a single.

                Tyler answered with five in the third and then four in the fourth to go up 14-4. WNCC started the fifth with singles from Duke and Mia Migliaccio. Castro then delivered a one-out single to score one but that was all they could get.

                WNCC had eight hits in the contest. Travers, Castro and Allbaugh all had two hits. Travers had two runs scored with a home run, while Castron had two RBIs.

                The second game saw Tyler score in the first four innings to take a 14-0 lead. WNCC made a rally in the fifth, needing seven runs to keep the game going. WNCC’s rally started with an Arntsen single and she scored on a Viktoria Sarkanyova double. Sarkanyova scored as Horton reached on an error. Travers followed with a single. Both Horton and Travers scored on a Castro double to make it 14-4. Holm added two more runs as she ripped a 2-run home run, but that was all they could get.

                The Cougars had six hits in game two with Castro going 2-for-3 with a double, while Holm had two RBIs with a home run.
