Conestoga Splits Home Doubleheader with Arlington

MURRAY, NE - The Conestoga Cougar basketball teams split a home doubleheader with the Arlington Eagles on Friday, as heard on B103.
In the opener, Arlington jumped ahead 20-11 after the first quarter and held a 43-29 lead at break time. The Eagle ladies would hold on from there for a 74-64 win. Each team shot around 50% from the free throw line with Arlington finishing 8/16 and Conestoga hitting 11/21. The Cougars wound up 9/29 from downtown, while the Eagles hit 6/20. Macy Wolf led the visitors with 24 points & 13 rebounds to go with five assists. Emme Timm chipped in with 16 points, seven assists, and six steals; Hayley Arp dropped in 15 points; and Ainsley Wolf filled the stat book with seven points, ten boards, eight assists, and six steals. Conestoga was a two-person attack with 26 points from Ella Tegels & Ayla Garrett with 23 points & 12 rebounds. After a 70-51 loss to Bergan Catholic on Saturday, Conestoga is now 4-15, while Arlington's win put them at 11-10.
The nightcap saw Conestoga jump out to a 31-12 lead after the opening frame and a 45-19 lead at halftime. The Cougars finished things off with a 73-53 triumph. Arlington ended up 10/17 at the charity stripe & 5/19 from downtown. Conestoga's Cole Merwald scored half of his 30 points in the first quarter, while Mason Merwald finished with 14...with eleven in the first frame. Jude Keene also found double figures for Conestoga with eleven points. For Arlington, Oliver Ladehoff hit for 18, while Luke Sharp ended up with a dozen. Arlington is now 5-14, while Conestoga sits at 12-6.
Next up for the Eagles is a home doubleheader against Plattsmouth on Tuesday, while Conestoga will bring in Douglas County West for two on Tuesday.
