BEATRICE – Emergency crews were sent to a highway accident north of Beatrice just after four-thirty p.m., Thursday.  A collision between two sport utility vehicles happened at the west junction of Nebraska Highway 41 and U.S. Highway 77.

Initial reports indicated that two persons suffered injuries in the accident…one with a laceration and another person with a possible broken wrist. Beatrice Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision ended up on its top, in the divided highway median. The crash slowed traffic through the area, but both northbound and southbound travel continued through the area.

Two injured in accident

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident, and Clatonia and Cortland Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.

Sheriff's officials say a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder driven by 70-year-old Linda Baehr of Adams, stopped at a sign on Nebraska Highway 41, then pulled onto U.S. Highway 77... failing to observe a westbound 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 69-year-old Rebecca Behrends, of Wymore.

The two vehicles collided.  Both drivers were taken to Bryan West Health Center in Lincoln, for non-life-threatening injuries.   The accident was being investigated, for potential citations.
