With football season kicking off across all levels of college athletics this month here in Nebraska, we're bringing back a weekly series from last fall: our Doane Coach Conversations, where Jonathan Johnson, head football coach at Doane University, meets up with NCN's Tim Hackett every week to discuss his team and preview this week's opponent.

With the Tigers preparing to face longtime in-state rivals Hastings to kick off the 2025 season this Saturday, this week Coach Johnson shared his excitement about an increase in energy from his team during fall camp and in the lead-up to the season; broke down how his staff identified areas of need and worked to address them in the construction of this year's roster; and outlined how coaches prepare for a new season in a sport where every team looks different from year to year.

These interviews will be posted weekly here on newschannelnebraska.com. You can watch the Tigers' first game of the 2025 season against Hastings live on NCN on Saturday night starting at 5:50 PM with kickoff to follow at 6 PM. And those in the Crete and Southeast Nebraska can listen to this game - and every Doane football game this season - on 99.5 FM, and every game will also air live online at olred995.com.
