Heavy rain overnight causes flooding in northeast Nebraska

Some parts of northeast Nebraska are drenched today after a thunderstorm dropped heavy amounts of rain overnight.

BLOOMFIELD, Neb. — Some parts of northeast Nebraska are drenched today after a thunderstorm dropped heavy amounts of rain overnight.

The highest of amounts of rain fell in Pierce and Knox counties. Bloomfield registered a staggering 5.24 inches. Wausa (3.31") and Osmond (3.19") each registered more than three inches. Crofton (2.49") and Center (1.3") also received a good soaking.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the area that lasted from around 4:30 to 9:30 Sunday morning. NWS officials described the episode as training thunderstorms, which means storms that repeat over the same terrain.
