John Clayton Moore

John Clayton Moore, 81 years of age, of Beatrice passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice. He was born on March 2, 1944, at the Beatrice Mennonite Deaconess Hospital in Beatrice, Nebraska to George Wesley and Beulah May (Lund) Moore. John attended country school and later graduated from Filley High School with the class of 1962. While in high school, he competed in football, basketball, and was a stand-out track athlete. John enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard on April 21, 1964, and served until his honorable discharge on January 14, 1974.
On July 30, 1965, John was united in marriage to Cheryel Sue Harding-Bickmore. To this union four daughters, Amy, Lori, Christina, and Heather were born. John worked as a technician for LT & T Telephone Company – Alltel in Beatrice for 31 years where he was also a Union Steward. Additionally working at Diode Communications for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion for 48 years and Admiral Nebraska Navy in 1994 and Mr. Homesteader also in 1994. John was a hunter safety instructor and served on the Pleasant View Cemetery Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends. “He never knew a stranger”.
John is survived by his wife, Cheryel; children: Lori Snyder and husband Joe, Christina Novotny and husband Greg, and Heather Moore, grandchildren: Jessica (Snyder) Wortmann and husband Richard, Ryan Snyder, Christopher Watts-Moore, and Aiden Novotny, great-granddaughter Elora Wortman, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Amy Marie Moore, and his brother Kenneth Moore and his sister Kathleen Moore.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Graveside Inurnment will immediately follow services at the Pleasant View Cemetery near Pickrell, Nebraska with full military honors conducted. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 8 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Family will greet friends from 6-8 PM.
