DEWITT, Neb. - An education career spanning over 50 years is set to come to a close.

Randy Schlueter has been in education since 1974, but the Tri County Superintendent is set to retire.

“There are things outside of education that I want to do,” Schlueter said. “You can’t put things off forever, because forever could be the end and I want to go places and I want to do things.”

Schlueter, a Wisner, NE. Native, has bounced around the state, but always remained in education. His time as Superintendent at Tri County began in 2013. But this Is actually retirement part two - in 2022, Schlueter retired, but would return o Tri County shortly there after.

“They were in need of a superintendent,” Schlueter said. “I just felt with my coming back, I know the people, I know the staff and I know what the district needs.”

Schlueter has seen a lot throughout his career and during his time in southeast Nebraska. Of the lasting memories, a recent one is negative for Schlueter as a bond issue aimed at improving Tri County facilities narrowly failed earlier this month.

Meanwhile, a lasting positive is one he hopes continues as he moves on - continued growth and success for Tri County.

“Make it a destination that people want to come to for activities because of what the district offers people and patrons,” Schlueter said.

Schlueter will be replaced by Brian Rottingaus, who is currently wrapping up his ninth year as Superintendent at Pawnee City Public Schools. Schlueter’s last day is set for June 30.
