Thousands without power, interstate closed through much of Nebraska

Tens of thousands of people are without power Wednesday morning as a blizzard sweeps through Central Nebraska.

KEARNEY, Neb. — Tens of thousands of people are without power Wednesday morning as a blizzard sweeps through Central Nebraska.

As of 8:00, Nebraska Public Power District was reporting 129 power outages across the eastern half of the state affecting nearly 9,700 customers. Hastings Utilities marked essentially the entire city as without power. Grand Island Police reported power lines down across the city.

CENTRAL NEBRASKA CLOSINGS

The Nebraska Department of Transportation says Interstate 80 is closed from Lexington to Lincoln. All highways in Central Nebraska are marked as completely covered with snow. Travel is considered impossible across much of the region.
