Alfred E. Wollenburg, 91, of Wilber, died Friday afternoon, March 7, 2025, at the Beatrice Community Hospital.  He was born on January 6, 1934, in DeWitt and graduated from DeWitt High School in 1951.  Alfred served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years and traveled the world.  After being honorably discharged, he set-up commissaries worldwide for the Army-Air Force Exchanges.  In June of 1958 he married Lorene Wall.  They were blessed with a son and a daughter.  He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Jesse Wollenburg, Ashley Wollenburg, and Crystal Stout; nine great-granddaughters; sister, Kathryn (Gary) Adams; three sisters-in-law, Ann Wollenburg, Shirlie Wollenburg, and Judy Wollenburg; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; many beloved friends around the country.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lorene, who died on September 4, 2009; son, Terry Wollenburg; daughter, Tanya Wollenburg; parents, Otto and Katherina (Bergmeier) Wollenburg; six brothers, Raymond (Katie) Wollenburg, John (Phyllis) Wollenburg, Ernie Wollenburg, Otto Wollenburg, Donald Wollenburg, and Robert Wollenburg; five sisters, Gertrude (F. Michael) Powers, Lucille (Jack) Petree, Louise (John) Welch, Ruth (Eugene) Bartunek, and Vernes (Stanley) Foreman.

Alfred’s wishes were to be cremated and buried at sea.  The family will celebrate his life at a later date.  A memorial has been established to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.    www.foxfuneralhome.net.  Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice.
