BEATRICE – The Beatrice Street Department says a sinkhole is to blame for a street closure.

Wiebe Street near Bismark Street in west Beatrice is closed for about a half-block north of the intersection.

Officials said there’s a sinkhole in the middle of the road, which has a gravel surface.  The street will be closed until further notice.

Street Superintendent Jason Moore says it was a low spot in the road that was noticed by the public.  It was created by a leaking sewer line about seven feet under the roadway.

The city’s Wastewater Pollution Control planned to use a jet truck to excavate down the leak and apply a patch to it.
