Deadline set for Nebraska Chief Justice applications

BEATRICE – The Judicial Nominating Commission for Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court will hold a hearing, October 4th at 10 a.m., at the Supreme Court Courtroom in the State Capitol.
Supreme Court Justice Lindsey Miller-Lerman says the commission will receive information on the qualifications of candidates to fill the vacancy of Chief Justice.
Judge Michael Heavican recently announced that he will retire as Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court at the end of October, following 18 years as head of the court.
Persons interested in the high court position must submit applications electronically, by 3 p.m., Friday, September 13th. Application information is available on the Nebraska Judicial Branch website.
Members of the public can submit testimony for the commission’s consideration by written form….or by oral testimony during the upcoming hearing. Written testimony must be mailed to the Commission chairperson no later than September 27th.
