Firth, NE -- A southeast Nebraska athlete is heading to the MLB after a state championship season at Norris High School.

Kale Fountain, who will be playing baseball next spring in Baton Rouge for the Louisiana State Tigers, was drafted with the 151st pick in the 2024 MLB Draft Sunday to the San Diego Padres.

Fountain was a member of the Norris Titans Class B state championship winning team which finished the season with a record of 25-5 with a win over Gretna East in Omaha.

Fountain committed to play baseball at Florida State when he was in 8th grade, but decommitted to play in the Southeastern Conference for the Tigers.

Kale was a standout athlete for Norris, a starter for all four years on the team and one of the top players in the country at the high school level.

Baseball runs in the Fountain family as his brother, Bryce, who will be a junior this upcoming season at Norris, committed to play baseball at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln when he was in 8th grade.

Fountain will join a team that made it to the National League Championship Series in 2022, while also having some big name players like Manny Machado and Luis Arraez.
