Beatrice man arrested after discovery of knives in vehicle

BEATRICE – A Beatrice man was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of weapon and drug violations….following a traffic stop in which an officer noticed a vehicle where both registered owners were on suspended licenses.
Just after 8 p.m., an officer observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Sixth traveling toward Market Street. The officer stopped the vehicle at 9th and Market. In speaking to the two male occupants, the officer noticed a knife under the middle console. After taking possession of the knife and conducting a records check, the officer found that one of the occupants was a convicted felon.
A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle uncovered ten knives….one with a blade of over four inches long. The officer also recovered a straw with residue that field-tested as methamphetamine.
Arrested was 45-year-old Ashley Nielsen on suspicion of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony.
Nielsen was taken to the Gage County Jail.
