Severe weather outbreak in eastern Nebraska, Friday afternoon
BEATRICE - A dangerous Friday afternoon across eastern Nebraska, with large supercell thunderstorms forming during the noon hour in southeast Nebraska near the convergence of frontal boundaries....then expanding to the north and northeast throughout the afternoon.
Several tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued, extending through late afternoon.
Funnel clouds were spotted near Wilber and Friend, with tornado sightings reported later near LIncoln, Waverly, Greenwood, Yutan, Waterloo, Elkhorn and Bennington.
At one point, six separate areas of southeast and eastern Nebraska were under tornado warnings.
A brief tornado touchdown was reported near the Kawasaki Manufacturing Plant in Lincoln. Train cars were reported derailed and a semitrailer truck tipped over in high winds, near Waverly. A house reportedly sustained damage just north of Waverly.
Vehicle and building damage was reported from a tornado just south of Waterloo.
Farther west, weather observers and emergency management reported funnel clouds and a tornado near Brainerd. Two trucks were reported flipped over on Nebraska Highway 15.
A large tornado was reported on the ground by emergency management, near Lindsay and another large tornado was confirmed, west of Newman Grove. Tornadoes were also confirmed near Elba, Farwell and Rockwell, in central Nebraska.
