Fairbury hosts a candidate forum ahead of election
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Fairbury and Jefferson County Government candidates are sharing their goals and ideals with the public.
The Fairbury Rotary, along with the Fairbury Journal News, hosted a candidate forum at the high school Monday night.
Candidates from the County Commissioner, City Council and Mayoral races spoke to the public.
“I think we all want to know who’s representing us in our county and city government and we all want to have a relationship with those folks,” said Lana Likens, President of Fairbury Rotary. “We all want to be able to know if someone is elected or when someone is elected, we all want to be able to know that we can go to them and ask them questions.”
This was the second running of the forum with the last event being in 2022, which saw 50 people show up.
This year’s event included a question and answer segment along with a 12 minute time limit. Residents were able to stay after and ask personal questions to the candidates.
“We feel like it is really important for people to have an opportunity to hear our candidates. We have county and city offices represented,” said Likens. “I think it is very important for voters to be informed. It’s important for people to vote and speak their mind in the polls.”
Likens said Fairbury Rotary and Fairbury Journal News will have another candidate forum in the fall for the general election.
