BEATRICE – What will happen to horses seized during an investigation into animal neglect last year, has been delayed a third time.

Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner granted a continuance in the hearing on disposition of the animals, in district court Tuesday. The horses seized last August from veterinary clinics in Pickrell and Beatrice have been in the care of a horse rescue organization near Crete, as the court case plays out.

Gage County is footing the bill for the animals’ care, after several generous donations helped out in the initial stages.

Judge Schreiner granted a continuance until March 18th and ordered that the matter will be set for trial on that date. Both sides apparently are working on a resolution to the matter.  A total of 37 malnourished horses were seized last August from the two clinics following a weeks-long investigation.

The veterinarian who had the animals in possession was earlier cited for several counts of animal neglect.
